One of the things I appreciate most about airports is the convenience of checking in my heavy luggage before boarding the plane. This means I don’t have to drag it around with me. Those who know me well are aware that even on a week-long trip, I pack as if I’m going away for a month! I can’t imagine navigating the airport with at least 25kg of my belongings. Just managing my carry-on and backpack is sometimes enough to slow me down and tire me out. Without this system, traveling would be chaotic and far less enjoyable.

There’s only so much weight a human body can carry before slowing down or even collapsing. The same is true for our soul. The enemy desires nothing more than to see a child of God burdened by heavy baggage. He enjoys watching us slow down in our pursuit of God’s presence. However, by the grace of God, we have a way to be relieved of our soul’s burdens. This solution is found in Jesus Airlines! “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30, ESV). The best part about this system is that, unlike in the natural world, we can truly hand over our burdens and receive back something light and filled with better things. Isn’t that wonderful!

Many of you were suppose to have taken off into higher dimensions during your worship service. The plane was at the gate, ready for you to board, but you refused to hand over your baggage. Some of you carry heavy burdens filled with words spoken over you. Hand it over! Some of you are still trying to fulfill the wishes of a dying loved one who told you to pursue a certain field of study or marry a specific person. You’re struggling, yet determined to honor this wish. Hand it over! Whatever the Lord asks of you must be held in higher regard than anyone else’s requests anyway! Some of you were hurt by a relationship and can’t seem to move on. Hand that one over too! Some of you are facing financial struggles and feel like giving up. Hand it over! The Lord Jesus has His hands open, ready to take it all from you.

I’m certain the Lord has led me to write this post because He desires for you, His child, to worship Him without any burdens holding you back, free to lift your hands in worship and dance before Him. Your soul must be light to soar. I recall my Spiritual father, Prophet Shyju Mathew, teaching about this, and it was truly liberating! I believe worship is the plane (or vessel) through which God brings us into His presence. Therefore, before attending your church service this Sunday, it is crucial to take time, even the day before, to prepare by releasing to the Lord every burden, offense, and anything that may weigh you down during the service. These can hinder your ability to fully engage in worship and experience the blessed journey God has prepared for you. Otherwise, you may find it difficult to connect with worship as you normally would. This is where the enemy can sneak in, planting offence in your heart beginning with the usher who sat you down, your church, its leaders, the worship team, and even God!

Worship is the one gift we, as believers, can offer to God during the service. Don’t let the enemy take that moment from you! Trust me, you don’t want to miss the divine experience God has planned for you. So, surrender everything that keeps you down! And remember, what He gives back will be lighter and more valuable than what you give Him.
